The United Soccer Coaches released its Junior College Division I Men’s Soccer top 20 poll on Tuesday, Sept. 6, which featured the Buccaneers as one of three colleges to receive votes.
Though Blinn did not crack the top 20, fourth-year head coach Michael McBride was happy to see the Bucs get a nod during their best start in program history.
“It is pleasing to see the program’s growth with the early recognition by the United Soccer Coaches,” McBride said. “It is an honor to be in the national conversation with such a prestigious group of programs.”
In addition to Tuesday’s news, Blinn is making waves atop the NJCAA’s Division I men’s soccer statistical rankings.
As of Wednesday morning, Buccaneer sophomore midfielder Felix Mesquita is tied for first nationally with six assists this season. As a team, Blinn is tied for eighth with 18 assists. Additionally, sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Pena is third in victories with four and 15th in goals against average at .54.
The Buccaneers take on Northeast Texas Community College in a Region XIV tilt at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Hohlt Park’s Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas. Blinn is currently 1-0 in region play following a 4-1 home victory over Paris Junior College on Sept. 3.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
