The Blinn College men’s basketball team pushed its winning streak to six games with an impressive 86-70 victory over Coastal Bend College on Wednesday in Beeville, Texas.
The matchup of Region XIV adversaries was the second and final regular-season meeting between the two teams, who each earned a win on the road.
“The last time we played Coastal Bend, they knocked us off in our own gym, so our guys came in focused and ready to play,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “We have a tremendous amount for respect for coach Brandon Martinez and his program, and this was a huge win for us.”
The Buccaneers (19-6, 10-4 Region XIV) began their current win streak following a 79-71 home loss to the Cougars on Jan. 24.

The Buccaneers controlled Wednesday’s game from start to finish, trailing for just 21 seconds of play after Coastal Bend took a 2-0 with 19:45 showing in the first half. Freshman wing Anthony Isaac tied the game on a layup at the 19:24 mark and the Cougars never regained the lead.
The Bucs led 45-38 at halftime.
Isaac continued his rapid rise with a 21-point, 17-rebound double-double while adding five assists for Blinn. Isaac now has eight double-doubles on the season and registered his 14th consecutive game with at least 10 points.
Sophomore Masiah Gilyard also had a big night with 25 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore forward Jamine Charles chipped in 14 points, six rebounds and four assists.

“I’m just glad our guys are playing good, solid basketball right now,” Schumacher added. “We’re guarding, rebounding, and moving the ball around. Obviously, when you’re focused on those things, you’re going to get better. We think have a good basketball team, but you have to do the things the right way on the court to win and we’re doing that right now.”
Blinn gets back to work with a region home clash against Victoria College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 45 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
