The Blinn College women’s soccer team surged into the new season with a decisive 4-0 road victory over Cisco College on Thursday in Cisco, Texas.

“A lot of our newcomers opened their Blinn careers with their first goal, which was really exciting to see,” third-year Buccaneers head coach  said. “We also had a very gutsy performance by our back line and our freshman goalkeeper to earn the shutout.”

Blinn (1-0) opened the scoring on an unassisted goal from freshman defender Ashlee Rodriguez in the 26th minute. The Bucs would maintain their 1-0 edge until sophomore forward Alyssa Wright turned an assist from freshman midfielder Starr Humphreys into a goal in the 67th minute.

Freshmen midfielders Rebecca Madrid and Marguerite Funk padded the lead with unassisted goals in the 73rd and 89th minutes, respectively.

Blinn totaled 15 shots on goal.
