BRENHAM, Texas- The Blinn College women’s basketball team claimed its first home win of the season after defeating Temple College, 63-56.
“Anytime we play Temple it is always really close, but we played hard and it is nice to get our first home win,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.
Rayanna Carter led the Buccaneers with 15 points, while Kyler Wyatt totaled 11, Jade Rochelle tallied nine, and Aaliyah Holmes and Missy Archie pitched in seven each.
“We beat Temple the first time, so we were expecting them to come back hard,” Carter said. “We made mistakes in the beginning, but as a team we told ourselves we have to come back and we went out strong.”
With the win, the Buccaneers improved their record to 3-1.
The Buccaneers and Temple played fairly even in the first quarter, but it was Blinn that ended the opening quarter with a 14-10 lead. The Buccaneers held onto the momentum for the remainder of the game as they scored 16 points in the second quarter to double their lead to 30-22 at the half.
Temple worked hard in the third quarter to rally with 20 points, but Blinn managed to stay ahead 47-42. Leading by five, Blinn narrowly stayed ahead of Temple in the fourth quarter before pulling ahead 63-56 for the win.
Blinn will take on Weatherford College in a pre-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. in the P.E. Building.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
