BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball shot out of the gates by scoring the first 21 points of the game and went on to roll to a 96-59 victory over Lone Star College Cy-Fair Jan. 24 in Brenham.

“We talked about doing what we are supposed to be doing and getting our swagger back,” said Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher. “I am happy for our guys because that was a game where they could have come out and not be focused.”

Lionheart Leslie had a strong second half scoring 10 of his 18 total points in the second half. Ja’Cardo Hawkins also came up big with 15 points in the paint to help the Buccaneers.

“This was a good game for us to get back on track,” Hawkins said after the game. “We came out and played more as a team tonight.”

Vicktor Arnick finished with 13 points while Morris Dunnigan and Jalan McCloud each had 12 points on the night.

Arnick was a big reason for the early surge in the game as he scored four early points as Blinn shot out to a 21-0 lead in the first 6:48 of the game. It didn’t get much better for Cy-Fair as Arnick totaled 11 points in the first half and the Buccaneers held a 49-19 lead at the break.

Blinn didn’t let up in the second half as Leslie was able to lead the fast break a couple of times and hit a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 10 second-half points. Hawkins chipped in nine points in the second half as the Buccaneers cruised to a 37-point victory that improves their overall record to 15-5. Blinn’s conference record is 6-4 as this point of the season.

Blinn will be back to conference play when it hosts Angelina College Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
