A Brenham man is facing felony charges after authorities say he fired multiple shots into a residence in northern Austin County.
According to the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call on June 10, 2026, reporting shots fired into a residence near the 10000 block of Highway 36 North. When deputies arrived, they learned that a male suspect had allegedly arrived at the residence, fired several shots at the victim, and then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Investigators with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID), along with a forensic investigator, responded to process the scene and collect evidence. During the investigation, authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Spencer McCarty.
During the evening hours, investigators, assisted by the Brenham Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, located McCarty at a residence in Brenham and conducted surveillance on the location.
At approximately 10:00 p.m., the Austin County Regional Special Response Team executed an arrest warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Carrington Lane in Brenham. McCarty was taken into custody without incident.
Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at the residence, resulting in the seizure of firearms and narcotics, according to authorities.
McCarty was booked into the Austin County Jail on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
Under Texas law, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon is generally a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 upon conviction. Depending on the circumstances of the case and any additional charges that may be filed, penalties could vary.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Brenham Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Austin and Washington County District Attorney’s Offices for their assistance during the investigation.
As with all criminal cases, the charges against McCarty are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
