Blinn picked up a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three series and improved its Super Smash Bros record to 2-1 this season.
Competing for Blinn were sophomores Brett Fahrenholz and Christian Ekpenike, along with freshmen Jacob Starr and Dawson Beatty.
Buccaneers assistant coach Kyle Murto, who oversees the Super Smash Bros team, was especially impressed with Fahrenholz’s effort, who Murto said solidified his role as the team’s captain.
“Brett had one of the best performances I have seen from not only him, but from any of my Super Smash Bros players since this program has been around,” Murto said. “He played phenomenal and really stepped up today.”
Blinn’s Super Smash Bros team will resume its season with a match against the University of Guam at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13. Blinn esports will see other action next week beginning with a Valorant match against the University of Central Florida Rising at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
