Top-seeded Jaydon Flores earned a victory over his opponent from Glen Oaks Community College to advance to the semifinals. Flores’ teammate, Brett Fahrenholz, fell in a pair of matches against Glen Oaks and Calhoun Community College, bringing about the end of his season.
Flores was triumphant with a 3-0 sweep and will now battle a representative from Heartland Community College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 16.
“While we got off to a little shaky start with Jaydon barely etching out a win, he was able to shake off the nerves,” Blinn assistant coach Kyle Murto said. “Moving on to the second match of the series, it was a lot more dominant then the first and he was able to pick up the convincing win.”
Fahrenholz fell 3-0 and 3-1, ending a strong season and career for the Buccaneers.
“Brett’s season has come to an end, and his time with this program has now ended with him moving on to a four-year university after this semester,” Murto said. “Despite the ending, I could not be prouder of Brett and how far he has come as a player since he first joined this program more than a year ago. He has become a phenomenal player, capable of being one of the top Super Smash Bros players in the nation amongst two year colleges, and has been a great captain, pushing the rest of the team to improve every day.”
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 43 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
