The Blinn College women’s soccer team fell to Jacksonville College 3-1 in a Region XIV matchup Tuesday in Jacksonville, Texas.
The setback was the Buccaneers’ first in their last five matches and dropped them to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the region.
“We lacked in our preparation for this game,” Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. “We were overconfident, but this is a good lesson for a young team. We still have a chance to sit at the top of the table in our division, but we will have to win our last three games.”
Blinn is in second place in the Region XIV South Division, while Jacksonville sits in first with a 5-1-1 conference mark.
The Bucs led the game 1-0 following a goal in the sixth minute of play by sophomore midfielder Rileigh Toner. Freshman midfielder Eleanor Sargeant assisted Toner on the score.
The Jaguars scored in the 25th, 42nd, and 60th minutes for the comeback win.
Jacksonville outshot Blinn 7-5 and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Buccaneer freshman goalkeeper Madison Ortiz made three saves.
Next up for Blinn is a region home bout against Angelina College set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
