The Buccaneers improved to 2-2 overall and rebounded from a loss to LSU-Eunice on Friday with the help of four players who scored 20 points or more.
“I’m glad we finished this weekend on a positive note,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “I thought the guys played really well and we were able to come out on top.
“We just played a better basketball game than we did Friday.”
Freshman wing Jaja Sanni had a big day with a team-high 27 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists. Third-year freshman forward Tyler Washington poured in 24 points and earned a double-double with 12 rebounds, while sophomore wing Calvin Carpenter had 23 points and six rebounds and sophomore wing Connor Raines drilled four 3-pointers as part of a 22-point showing. Raines also had five rebounds, and freshman forward Jan Njock had a 10-point, five-rebound performance.
“Those guys really stepped up and played well today,” Schumacher added.
Blinn plays one more road game — at Temple College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday — before hosting the first-ever Blue Bell Ice Cream Classic on Friday, Nov. 12. The Buccaneers will battle the University of Arkansas Cossatot at 7 p.m. to open the Classic at the Kruse Center in Brenham. On Saturday, Nov. 13, Blinn will close the tournament with a 3 p.m. clash against Dallas College-North Lake.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
