CORSICANA, Texas – Blinn College football needed a win to keep its slim postseason hopes alive but Navarro College proved to be difficult to stop as the Buccaneers suffered a season-ending 48-14 loss Sunday afternoon in Corsicana.
The loss ends the season for Blinn with a 5-4 record, which includes a 2-4 record in conference.
Blinn kept it close in the first quarter and only trailed 14-7. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers were only able to score seven more points the rest of the game while Navarro tacked on 34 additional points to walk away with the victory.
Navarro scored first to open the game but Blinn was able to counter right back when Robert Mitchell found Doug Johnson for a 25-yard touchdown pass to knot the game at 7-7 with 4:40 left in the opening quarter.
Proving to be hard to contain, Navarro scored 24 unanswered points to take a 31-7 lead late in the second quarter. Blinn did take a stab at gaining momentum before halftime when Robert Mitchell threw a second touchdown pass, this time to brother Garrison Mitchell for 17 yards to get within 31-14 at the half.
It appeared that the Buccaneers would be riding a little momentum as Jake Anderson intercepted a Navarro pass to begin the second half. Unfortunately, Blinn was unable to capitalize on the turnover and couldn’t score in the final two quarters.
