Six Blinn College – Brenham campus Theatre Arts students recently drew the attention of several university theatre programs at the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA) TheatreFest in Houston.

Gabriel Arias (Hempstead), Corrine Booth (Austin), Colleen Dougan (Brenham), Alex Joshi (McKinney), Jaqueline Kana (Sealy) and Kayla Kelly (Humble) all participated in TheatreFest. Arias, Dougan and Kelly took part in the performance auditions while Booth presented her technical portfolio for the TETA technical auditions.

“Students attending TETA take part in theatre workshops to expand their knowledge and bring that knowledge back into the department,” said Bradley A. Nies, theatre director. “Students have the opportunity to audition for universities so they may continue their theatre education after graduating from Blinn.”

Each student that participated was called by university recruiters expressing interest in having the students attend their respective universities, including Hardin-Simmons, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Houston, Texas-Arlington, Texas-Austin and West Texas A&M.

Technical Theatre Arts Director Kevin Patrick completed his three-year term as TETA secretary and Nies was appointed to take his place. Jennifer Patrick and Kevin Patrick each participated in judging the TETA technical auditions and Nies served as a judge for the TETA acting auditions.

The Blinn-Brenham campus will host the TETA SummerFest for the first time in 2017. SummerFest is an educational conference that provides workshops for theatre educators in Texas.

“We will have more than 200 Texas theatre instructors visiting our campus and taking part in theatre-related workshops,” Nies said.

The Blinn Theatre Arts Program hosts at least eight performances each year on its Brenham and Bryan campuses and offers a quality educational foundation through study, application and experience. For more information, visit: www.blinn.edu/vpa/theatre.html.
