The Blinn College esports team fell to the Texas A&M University-San Antonio in Super Smash Bros Ultimate play on Thursday.
The Buccaneers were competing in their first Super Smash Bros match of the season and were bested 2-0 in a best-of-three National Association of Collegiate Esports matchup. Blinn is now 0-1 in the NACE West-Central Conference.
Competing for the Bucs were Gabe Pipes, Tanner Hicks, Joshua Delosanntos, and Brady Landry.
“While we lost the series 2-0, overall it was a good first showing for us,” said Blinn assistant coach and Super Smash Bros coach Kyle Murto. “None of these kids have had the chance to compete on the gaming stage before, so this was a good start to introduce them to it and hopefully they shook off all their nerves. We will get back to it next week, where we hope to earn our first win of the season.”
Blinn resumes Super Smash Bros Ultimate play with a NACE matchup against Dallas Baptist University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Up next for the Buccaneer esports team, Overwatch begins play in the Overwatch Collegiate Championship Series-Swiss Stage beginning with Stage 1 at 1 p.m. and Stage 2 at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Blinn’s opponents have yet to be announced.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
