In Super Smash Bros action, sophomore Brett Fahrenholz and freshmen Clay Herd, Jacob Starr, and Dawson Beatty earned the National Association of Collegiate Esports win to improve the Bucs to 5-1 on the year.
“This was one of the most dominating matches we have had in Super Smash Bros,” Blinn assistant coach Kyle Murto said. “This performance just solidifies how much our players have improved over the course of this semester.”
The Bucs will play their next Super Smash Bros match when they face the University of Jamestown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.
In Overwatch play, the Bucs battled Boise State in a battle for first place in the National Association of Collegiate Esports West-Central Conference but fell just short following a competitive match.
“It was close the whole time, but we just unfortunately could not get the victory to push it to a game five,” Murto said. “I am by no means upset with the loss, as we continue to prove that we are a solid team and that we are improving at a fast pace. At the beginning of the semester, we scrimmaged against Boise State and weren’t even close to beating them. Now, just a couple months later, we went toe-to-toe with them. We will bounce back from this loss and continue to improve as a program.”
Competing for Blinn were sophomores Gabriel Lopez, William Bowman, William Rossley, Aaron Lazo, and George Francis.
The Bucs are now 6-1 in Overwatch play this season. They will take on Missouri State University-West Plains at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
