It took one goal for the Blinn College women’s soccer team to add one more record to its history book.
Freshmen forwards Marissa Aparicio and Makayla Police teamed up for a tally in the 78th minute, and that was all the Buccaneers needed for a 1-0 Region XIV home win over Angelina College on Tuesday at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
The victory not only gave the Bucs their first regular-season sweep of the Roadrunners, but also secured for Blinn its first-ever 10-win season.
Already enjoying their best campaign since women’s soccer began at Blinn in 2018, the Buccaneers added to their stellar season by improving to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Region XIV South Division. Blinn is also two wins away from the South Division title.

“I’m really proud of this team for pulling off this win in a very back-and-forth game,” said Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson. “They have created a lot of history. This was a brilliant performance from the team as a whole, and I was glad to see the two freshmen — who have been excellent all season — link up for the goal.”
The matchup was filled with offensive opportunities, with Blinn finishing with a 15-13 edge in shots. However, it wasn’t until Aparicio crossed a pass over to Police near the center of the box that a scoreless stalemate came to an end. Police gathered the pass and fired the ball past a sliding Angelina goalkeeper for the game-winning score.

During the final minutes of play, the Roadrunners attacked the Blinn goal with a flurry of shots, but freshman keeper Madison Ortiz stood her ground for the Bucs, making several saves to preserve the shutout.
Ortiz finished with nine saves.
Blinn has two regular-season matches remaining, starting with a region road trip to Texas Southmost College at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Brownsville, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
