The Buccaneers (17-1, 6-1 Region XIV) earned impressive wins on Jan.19 and Jan. 22, defeating Angelina College on the road and then-No. 4 Trinity Valley at home, respectively.
“We beat a very good Angelina team on the road; we beat No. 4 Trinity Valley at home,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “It was a good week for us, and based on our resume, I think we deserved to be ranked. For us to get some more recognition, our team is going to have to win a few more.”
This is the second time the Buccaneers have appeared in the poll after first entering at No. 22 on Dec. 13. Blinn reached as high as 17th in the Jan. 10 rankings, but a Jan. 12 road loss to Kilgore temporarily sidelined the Bucs from the poll. Blinn responded with two straight victories and is currently tied for first place in the region with No. 10 Tyler Junior College (16-3, 6-1).
The Bucs visit Tyler at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Other Region XIV teams featured in Monday’s rankings were Trinity Valley, which dropped to No. 12, No. 16 Panola College, and No. 24 Kilgore College.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
