Blinn finished its season with a 39-4 overall record that included an incredible 38-match win streak. It was the team’s second consecutive national tournament appearance.
Blinn’s sophomore class graduates with a 66-7 career record and two top-10 finishes at the national tournament.
“Although the season did not end as we hoped, it was truly a blessing to spend it with this team,” Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said.
Sophomore Charde Van Zandt led the Buccaneers with a game-high 11 kills. Sophomore Savannah Sebek and freshman Lina Ellila dished out 15 and 11 set assists, respectively. From the service line, sophomores Emily Smajstria and Lixai Perez tallied one ace apiece.
Defensively, sophomore Guilia Hortelan recorded 18 digs, which also were a game-high. At the net, sophomores Jayde Shelton and Reagan Casey posted five assist blocks apiece while fellow sophomore Ashley Taylor added four. Casey also had a solo block.
Blinn’s stellar 2021 season included a Region XIV regular-season championship, the Region XIV Tournament championship, and a No. 1 seed in the national tournament. The Buccaneers also were winners of 38 straight matches from Aug. 21 through Nov. 18.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
