The Buccaneers defeated Missouri State University-West Plains 3-0 in a best-of-five NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) Overwatch bout. Haluk Tanriseven, Andrew Dugas, Donnivan Straight, Matthew Hutchings, and Javier Amezcua earned the win for Blinn, which improved to 3-0 in NJCAAe matches.
“The team has continued to progress in a positive manner, and we are looking to win out in the NJCAAe regular season,” said Blinn assistant coach Kyle Murto, who oversees the Overwatch team. “We came into this game very prepared, and our preparations showed as we were able to shut them out every single map for a clean sweep. I was specifically proud of Javier Amezcua for stepping up on support, and he had some huge ultimates that helped us shut down any advancements from West Plains’ attack.”
Between NJCAAe and National Association of College Esports (NACE) matchups this season, the Buccaneer Overwatch squad is 7-0.
Blinn Overwatch gets back to work when it faces Colorado School of Mines in a NACE showdown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The Buccaneer Call of Duty team battled a tough Texas A&M International University club in NACE action and fell 3-0 in a best-of-five set.
Blinn Call of Duty is now 1-3 in NACE tilts this season, but 4-3 overall between NACE and NJCAAe.
Competing for the Bucs were Landon Campos, David Rodriguez, Eroin Hernandez, and Logan Rivera.
“We knew going in that TAMIU would be a tough matchup, but we went in confidently and prepared,” Blinn assistant coach and Call of Duty manager Ryan Lucich said. “While the series score was 3-0, it felt a lot closer. I think if a few more key kills or plays went our way, the entire series could’ve been different; it just didn’t fall our way today. We’ll review the footage and improve for next week where we know we have a few important matchups coming up.”
Blinn Call of Duty takes on Central Community College in an NJCAAe match at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Elsewhere in Blinn esports, the Buccaneer Super Smash Bros team battles University of Texas-Dallas in a NACE contest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
