The Blinn College esports Overwatch team settled for a runner-up finish in the championship match of the NJCAA Esports national tournament Wednesday.
The Buccaneers battled Bryant & Stratton College in a best-of-five series and fell 3-0.
Competing for Blinn were Haluk Tanriseven, Donnivan Straight, Andrew Dugas, Matthew Hutchings, and Javier Amezcua.
“We put up a valiant effort, demonstrating skill and determination throughout the match,” Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto. “The team played with exceptional teamwork and strategy, showcasing all the hard work they put in this year. However, facing Bryant & Stratton, a powerhouse in the competitive scene, revealed the vast skill gap that currently exists. Bryant & Stratton’s proficiency and strategic prowess proved to be on another level, highlighting the intense competition at the national stage. Despite the loss, we can take pride in our performance and use this experience as a stepping stone for growth and improvement for the spring, where we will hopefully see them again.”
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 45 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
