The Blinn College esports team earned victories in the NJCAA Esports Super Regional semifinal and finals rounds Wednesday to advance to the national championship tournament.
The Buccaneers scored 3-0 sweeps in best-of-five play against North Dakota College of Science (semifinal) and Salt Lake Community College (final) to punch their ticket to nationals.
Competing for Blinn were Haluk Tanriseven, Donnivan Straight, Andrew Dugas, Matthew Hutchings, and Javier Amezcua.
“These resounding victories solidified our position as a formidable force in the competition,” Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto said. “The competition in the national finals will be fierce, with teams like Bryant & Stratton, Salt Lake Community College, Union College, and more. With our recent success and display of resilience, we are well prepared to take on these challenges and vie for the national championship.”
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
