TYLER, Texas — The Blinn College men’s soccer team fell to No. 12 Tyler Junior College, 7-1, on the road Tuesday.
With the loss, the Buccaneers are now 2-2 overall and in conference play.
“We learned some lessons today because Tyler was hungrier than us and made better decisions,” head coach Michael McBride said. “It was a very impressive performance by the opposition. Hopefully we can learn from it and get better from it because that is as good of a team that we will face this season.”
Marco Rodriguez Jr. scored Blinn’s lone goal, while Derek Norsworthy recorded one assist to lead Blinn’s offense. On defense, Diego Berlingeri tallied nine saves.
Tyler took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, but the Buccaneers managed to tie the game 1-1 when Norsworthy passed the ball off to Rodriguez Jr. for him to score. The Apaches scored two more goals in second half, in the 32nd and 38th minutes, to lead 3-1 at halftime.
The Apaches added four more points to the board in the second half after scoring in the 50th, 63rd, 75th and 80th minutes.
Next, the Buccaneers will return home to compete against Ranger College in a non-conference game on Saturday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at Rankin Field. The Blinn women’s team will take the field against Ranger at 7 p.m. to conclude the doubleheader.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
