BRENHAM, Texas – In its final non-conference game before Region XIV play begins, Blinn College men’s basketball put in its most impressive performance of the season with an 89-45 beating of Houston Community College Monday night inside the P.E. Building.

The Buccaneers maintained control of the momentum for the entire game to improve to 6-1 on the season.

“I thought our first half was our best defensive half of the year so far,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach.

Coming off his best performance at Blinn in his last game, Jarius Kesee put together another solid performance in the first half and finished with 11 points in the win.

“We really needed this game to build our confidence going into conference play,” Kesee said.

James Harrison was able to lead Blinn with 16 points while Antione Lister scored nine of his 14 total points in the second half.

Blinn was able to jump all over Houston in the opening eight minutes as a basket by Tyrus Grayson gave the Buccaneers a 23-5 lead with 12:10 left. Harrison led Blinn with 14 points in the first half while Kesee scored all 11 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. The lead ballooned to as much as 32 for the Buccaneers and it stayed that high as Blinn held a 55-23 lead at the break.

Houston came out with a little more energy in the second half but Blinn countered with a balanced attack that saw 10 different players score. Lister scored nine in the second half while T.J. Distefano hit two late 3-pointers to score six in the second half. Blinn maintained control to cruise to the 44-point victory.

Blinn will open Region XIV play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 against Panola College at 7:30 p.m.
