The Blinn College women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 2 Tyler Junior College in a tightly contested Region XIV matchup Saturday in Tyler, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in region matches.

Second-year Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson, who served as an assistant for the Bucs between 2019-2021, said she was impressed with her team’s effort despite the setback.

“To compete against a Tyler team that is ranked second in the nation is a testament of the growth this program has had and will continue to have,” Jackson said. “The players played hard until the last minute, and I am very proud of them. We look forward to the next game with confidence.”

Tyler took a 2-0 lead with goals in the 35th and 70th minutes. Blinn broke up the shutout in the 82nd minute on what Jackson described as an “unbelievable goal” from freshman midfielder Eleanor Sargeant.

The Apaches held an 18-10 advantage in shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Madison Ortiz made seven saves for Blinn.

Up next, the Buccaneers battle region foe Trinity Valley Community College at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, in Athens, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
