The Blinn College women’s basketball team fended off a second-half rally to escape with a 65-59 non-conference road win over Ranger College on Monday night in Ranger.
The Buccaneers are now 1-0 on the season.
“It was an extremely loud and tough environment to play in,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Ranger played hard and made plays all night.”
The Buccaneers led 21-11 after the first quarter and 35-25 at the half, but the Rangers trimmed their deficit to just 47-44 before Blinn held on for the final 10 minutes.
“I am proud of my team finding a way to get a tough road win,” added Jenkins.
Blinn redshirt freshman Tiffany Tullis led the Buccaneers with 14 points, followed by nine from sophomore Deja Adrian, eight apiece for freshmen Allana Thompson (redshirt) and Hannah Humphrey, seven for freshman Amillion Fowler and six for freshman Skylar Barnes.
The Buccaneers stay on the road for a non-conference clash with Louisiana State University-Eunice at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Eunice, Louisiana. Blinn will then host its first home game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Kruse Center in Brenham.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
