The Buccaneers finished the two-day tournament 1-4. On Friday, Blinn was defeated by Chattanooga State Community College and Jefferson College before ending the day with a victory over Southern Union State Community College.
The Buccaneers are now 3-12 on the season.
“Finishing 1-4 is not conducive to turning things around this weekend,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said. “One good outing against Southern Union was a game we should model consistently. When we figure that out, we’ll be much better competitors.”
In Saturday’s opener against Snead State, the Bucs rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning.
A Chandler Talbot single scored Kendall Johnson, and one batter later, Teagan Whitley made it 5-all when she doubled home Emily Kristynick and Talbot.
Snead State secured the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh, however, with a game-winning RBI double.
Whitley and Kristynik finished with two RBI apiece. Kristynik hit a two-run home run in the top of the second.
In the Bucs tournament finale, Walters State pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the win.
Kristynik hit her second home run of the day for Blinn (a solo shot in the sixth), Acie Prince plated two runs, and Keely Castillo drove in one. Prince, Talbot, and Madeline Stephenson finished with two hits each.
Blinn will resume its season with a home doubleheader against Louisiana State University-Eunice beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 4, at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
