Wharton County won the opener 13-2 in six innings before South Suburban defeated the Blinn 14-6 in a seven-inning game two.
The Buccaneers adjusted their schedule due to inclement weather and faced both Region XIV South foe Wharton County Junior College and South Suburban College in back-to-back games.
The Buccaneers are now 6-14 overall and 3-5 in region play.
“I thought the kids showed up in a good frame of mind and were ready to carry momentum over from Saturday’s win over No. 10 San Jacinto-North into today,” Blinn head coach Harvey McIntyre said. “We’ve put ourselves in opportunities to gain ground but seem to get back to square one. We need to start taking advantage of some positives we’ve created and play better, much better.”
In game one, the Bucs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind a Dave Wilson sacrifice fly and Liam Koleci‘s RBI single, but Wharton County tied the game in the second.
The Pioneers then tallied eight runs in the fourth frame to take the lead and added four more in the sixth.
Blinn finished with three hits, including two from Garrison Weiss, who doubled and scored in the first inning.
Bucs starting pitcher Colson Geisler took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) on three hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of work. He struck out four.
In game two, South Suburban got to Blinn starting pitcher Ryan Young for eight runs in the first inning. Young was the pitcher of record for the Bucs.
Blinn answered with two runs in the home half of the fourth and scored two more in the fifth before adding single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Bucs finished with seven hits, led by two from Jaxon Daigre. Daigre doubled, scored twice, and drove in a run. Koleci also doubled and recorded an RBI, and Tripp Cromer and Carter Allen also drove in a run for Blinn. Arturo Hernandez drove in two Bucs.
The Bucs open a three-game region series against Wharton County beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in Wharton, Texas. Blinn will host a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at Nutrabolt Stadium in Bryan, Texas.
