BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College football team fell to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, 41-21, in the final game of the season on Saturday at Cub Stadium.
The Buccaneers concluded the season with a 1-7 overall record and 0-7 conference record.
At halftime, the Buccaneers recognized the 1995 and 1996 Blinn College football teams that went 24-0 over two seasons and won back-to-back national football championships. In 1996, Blinn became the first two-year college in history to win back-to-back national titles under former head coach Willie Fritz, who is now the head coach at Tulane University.
Logan McDougald led Blinn’s offense against Northeastern Oklahoma with two touchdown passes, while Imiee Cooksey and Henry Thomas each caught one touchdown pass and Terrance Keyes Jr. rushed for one touchdown.
Blinn opened the game with a 7-0 lead in the first quarter after Keyes Jr. rushed in a touchdown from 10 yards out with 1:51 on the clock.
Northeastern Oklahoma answered back with two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 14-7 at halftime. The Golden Norsemen tied the game with a two-yard rushing touchdown at the 11:56 mark. Then, they extended their lead to 14-7 with a two-yard run with 3:09 on the clock.
Northeastern Oklahoma scored two touchdowns when they returned from the half to lead 28-7. The Golden Norsemen scored on a one-yard run with 10:28 showing and a 67-yard pass with 9:28 on the clock. Blinn scored a touchdown with 2:39 left in the quarter when McDougald sent a 14-yard pass to Cooksey in the end zone. Northeastern Oklahoma scored the final touchdown of the quarter with a 51-yard pass to lead 34-14 with 2:24 remaining.
In the final quarter, McDougald threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Thomas for Blinn to trail 34-21 with 11:22 left to go. Northeastern Oklahoma scored the final touchdown on a four-yard run with 2:28 remaining to lead 41-21 for good.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
