The Rangers scored first in the first quarter, but Blinn (0-1) tied the game on a 1-yard run by quarterback Terrance Gipson after Gipson connected with wide receiver Kaleb Hymes for a 49-yard completion.
Kilgore scored twice more in the second quarter to lead 21-7 at halftime, and outscored Blinn 28-10 in the second half to pull away with the conference win.
The Bucs got a 25-yard field goal from Alejandro Quintero and a 63-yard scoring run by Joshua Mazyck to cap their scoring.
Blinn’s season opener had been scheduled for Sept. 4 against Shreveport College, but that game was canceled.
“I wish we would have played last week,” Blinn coach Ryan Mahon said. “It’s hard opening up against the number five team in the nation.
“The story of this game was young kids making young kid mistakes. Against a team like that, you just can’t make mistakes, but we’re young. We knew that going in there.”
Mahon said his team showed promise offensively behind quarterback Gipson.
“It’s a lot of young kid mistakes, but I feel confident that we can get back to practice and solve this,” he said.
The Bucs will travel to Cisco College on Saturday, Sept. 18 for another conference matchup. In a poll of Southwest Junior College Football Conference coaches, Cisco was picked to win the conference with Kilgore picked for second.
