The Blinn College esports team fell to Dallas Baptist University in Super Smash Bros competition Thursday.
The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) matchup finished 2-0 in favor of Dallas Baptist in the best-of-three format.
The Buccaneers are now 0-2 in the NACE West-Central Conference.
Competing for Blinn was Gabe Pipes, Tanner Hicks, Joshua Delosanntos, and Brady Landry.
Blinn assistant head coach Kyle Murto, who oversees the Super Smash Bros team, said his team was bested decisively in the first round of play before coming back strong to give Dallas Baptist a hard-fought battle in the decided second round.
“Despite the loss, I am proud of the players for being able to come back after a rough loss in match one and make it a much better and closer match two,” said Murto. “This is definitely a loss we will take a lot of positives away from because it was close. Dallas Baptist took advantage of our downfalls and now we know exactly what we need to work on going forward.”
Blinn Super Smash Bros resumes play with a NACE tilt against Oklahoma Christian University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
