Blinn College esports earned a pair of victories Tuesday, prevailing in Overwatch and Call of Duty play.
The Buccaneers faced Oklahoma Christian University in a National Association of College Esports (NACE) Overwatch tilt and cruised to a 3-0 win, while the Blinn Call of Duty squad bested North Central Missouri College 3-0 in an NJCAA Esports clash. Both matches were played in a best-of-five format.
Blinn Overwatch now has a 3-0 record in the NACE West-Central 2 Conference. Competing for the Bucs were Haluk Tanriseven, Donnivan Straight, Matthew Hutch, Andrew Dugas, and Franscico Amezcua.
“Going into the third week of NACE, we faced our toughest competition yet in this regular season,” Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto said. “While this was the hardest regular-season match for NACE we have had so far, we came well prepared. Having already scrimmaged Oklahoma Christian in the preseason, we were aware of what they are capable of, as well as the kinds of compositions they would play. We decided to swap up our normal composition and looked to play a more rush-oriented play that focuses on getting into their backline and dismantling their team before they can react. This playstyle proved to be very effective.”
Blinn Call of Duty is now 2-0 in NJCAAe play behind the efforts of David Rodriguez, Landon Campos, Logan Rivera, and Eroin Hernandez Jr.
“This was an expected result for us, especially given our recent improvements and team chemistry,” said Blinn assistant coach Ryan Lucich, who manages the Call of Duty team.
Up next, Blinn Overwatch takes on North Dakota State College of Science in an NJCAAe match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Bucs will face Carolina University in a NACE Call of Duty tilt at 7:30 p.m., also Wednesday.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
