The Blinn College volleyball team was perfect Friday in the opening day of the Kruse Kickoff Classic, sweeping past New Mexico Junior College and Clarendon College at the Kruse Center on the Brenham Campus.
Blinn, 8-1 on the season and ranked No. 7 in the nation, swept both matches 3-0 in dominating fashion to extend its win streak to seven.
Blinn beat New Mexico JC 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 behind Jayde Shelton‘s 11 kills. Reagan Casey added eight, with Guilia Hortelan and Ashley Taylor adding six each. Hortelan added six block assists and 11 digs. Savannah Sebek led Blinn with 21 assists.
The Bucs were even more dominant against Clarendon College in their second match, winning 25-12, 25-11, 25-17. Blinn had a .341 kill percentage.
Shelton again led Blinn with 12 kills. She also had six block assists. Casey followed with 10 kills and four block assists. Taylor added five block assists.
Hortelan had seven digs, with Velez and Sebek getting six each and Kendall Battistella five. Sebek led Blinn in assists with 19, and Lina Ellila added 10.
Blinn will play two more games Saturday in the Kruse Kickoff Classic, taking on Western Texas at noon and Temple College at 4:30 p.m. The Bucs return to conference play Tuesday, hosting Victoria College in a 6 p.m. game. Blinn won its conference opener Thursday against Tyler Junior College.
