Marco Rodriguez scored three goals to lead the Blinn College men’s soccer team to a 5-4 win over Jacksonville College at Rankin Field in Brenham.
Rodriguez, a sophomore forward from Rosenberg, also had an assist on a goal scored by Kamille Kum. Keegan Wooley scored on a penalty kick for the Bucs.
Blinn led 3-2 at halftime and added two second-half goals to go up 5-2 before Jacksonville scored twice.
Head coach Michael McBride said it was an up-and-down game for his team.
“It was the good, the bad, and the ugly. We were Jekyll, Hyde, and their older brother,” said McBride. “It was a great result, but not a great performance.”
It was, however, a conference win for the Bucs, who are now 2-2 in conference and 4-2-1 for the season.
Assistant coach Rudy Roediger called Rodriguez “a difference maker” and said the Bucs are still learning how to win.
“We’re still growing and learning. We were totally in control of the game at 5-2 and took our foot off the gas a little bit,” he said, “but we’re still a young team.”
Roediger said forward Stefan Fevrier Sildor had a strong game for Blinn.
“He doesn’t show up on the stats, but he had an absolute shift. It was good to see him come to life like we know he can,” said Roediger.
The Bucs travel to Angelina College on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. conference game.
