The Blinn College men’s basketball team led the Region XIV conference in four categories and finished in the top-25 in the nation in five categories during a successful 2019-20 season. The Buccaneers led the region in field goal percentage, rebound margin per game, free throws per game, and free throw attempts per game. 

“I think this a testament to our players and how we played together as a team,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “In the end, everybody won.”

The Buccaneers finished the 2019-20 season with a 23-10 overall record and 11-8 conference record.

Blinn finished 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (51), 10th in the nation in rebound margin per game (15.4), 11th in the nation with an average of 25.3 free throw attempts per game, and 16th in the nation with an average of 17.4 free throws per game. 

The Buccaneers finished second in the region and 24th in the nation with an average of 90.9 points per game and ranked second in the region and 39th in the nation with an average of 42.3 rebounds per game. 

In addition, four Buccaneers received 2019-20 Region XIV Conference honors following the impressive season. Sophomores Tristan Ikpe (Deer Park) and AJ Rainey (Gray, La.) were named first-team all-region, Azariah Seay (Montgomery, Ala.) was named second-team all-region, and Pedro Castro (Fort Worth) was named honorable mention all-region.      

Blinn eliminated Coastal Bend College and Jacksonville College before falling to Angelina College in the NJCAA Region XIV Championship game to conclude the season.
