The Blinn College esports team remained unbeaten in Overwatch competition this season with a 3-0 win over Coker University on Monday.
Caleb Sheffield (Austin) was named match most valuable player. Other team members included Jacob Barnes (Bryan), Juan Cantu (Cedar Hill, Texas), Carter Haber (Aledo, Texas), Andre Magouirk (Bryan), and Ayden Rodriguez (College Station).
“Caleb played outstanding in the match,” esports coach Aaron Kapiko said. “He had great communication with his teammates and remained in strong position throughout the match.”
In Overwatch, teams of six players work together to make their way across a video battlefield to destroy the opponent’s main structure.
Blinn’s Overwatch team is now 3-0 overall. The Rocket League team, 1-1 so far this season, will play its third match tonight against Eastern Kentucky University. The Valorant season begins Wednesday against Wayland Baptist University.
Blinn, one of only a few community colleges in the region offering esports scholarships, competes in the National Association of College Esports against two-year colleges and four-year universities.
