A check for $26,670.50 was presented to Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District, and Scott Schumacher, Blinn Athletic Director and head men’s basketball coach, by Association President Kevin Bosse.
Ice cream for the event was also donated by Blue Bell Creameries.
Coaches, athletes, and athletic trainers from Blinn’s 13 athletic programs were on hand in the College’s Physical Education Building for the presentation of the check. The funds donated will go toward equipment purchases, filming gear for athletic events, cheer and dance costumes for national competitions, and other additions to the department’s programs.
“The Alumni Lettermen have no idea how much they have helped our student athletes,” Schumacher said. “Seeing former Blinn athletes continue to give back to our college is amazing, and tonight I’m glad that our student athletes get to enjoy this and see what it’s like to be a true Blinn College athlete.”
Monday’s gift was raised through fundraisers hosted by the Association, including April’s Clay Shootout.
“We really enjoy being able to give to the athletic programs at Blinn, and 100% of the money we raise from our various fundraisers goes toward athletics,” Bosse said. “Our relationship with Blinn athletics goes both ways, though, because without the help from the athletes here we would not be able to make some of these fundraising events as large as they are, and that’s the best part about all of this. The coaches and athletes truly benefit from all of it.”
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
