ATHENS, Texas – Playing probably its best at the right time, Blinn College volleyball closed out the regular season by sweeping Trinity Valley Community College Friday night in Athens by the score 25-18, 27-25 and 25-14.
“We have seen so much growth from our underclassmen,” said Blinn head Kalie Mader. “We definitely feel like we have learned something from each match and we have a chance to showcase something special.”
The win gives the Buccaneers a 25-9 final regular season and an 8-2 record in Region XIV. Blinn was able to obtain the top seed in the South Division by way of a tiebreaker and will face Paris Junior College Friday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
Both Abolanle Onipede and Eboni Mitchell led with 13 kills while Alexis Kingston chipped in with six kills. Jordyn Keamo led the Buccaneers with 41 assists and added eight digs. Dana Teets led Blinn with nine digs.
Blinn played well in the first and third sets and played good enough to sneak out the second set as well. The Buccaneers came out strong to claim the first set 25-18.
The second set proved more difficult to string together points for the Buccaneers as Trinity Valley put forth its best effort but Blinn was still able to come out on top 27-25. The third set was more to Blinn’s liking, winning big 25-14 to close out the sweep.
The Region XIV Volleyball Tournament will run Nov. 6-8 and all matches will be streamed live at www.psnsports.com.
