WACO, Texas — The Blinn College baseball team fell to McLennan Community College, 11-6, in a non-conference game on the road Monday.
With the loss, the Buccaneers are now 19-17 overall.
Brandon Williams and Garrison Weiss each launched solo home runs , while Tyler Russell and Jett Garcia also each drove in one run to lead the offense.
Kirkland Michaux pitched one hitless inning of relief, while Hudson Forrest allowed no earned runs and only surrendered one hit in one inning.
Blinn jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Weiss hit a solo home run and Ben Hovda scored on a fielder’s choice in the first inning.
McLennan cut the Buccaneers’ lead in half in the bottom of the first inning, but Blinn earned the run back when Williams led off the second inning with a home run.
Blinn scored one run in the fourth inning when Caleb Schulz scored on Garcia’s sacrifice fly to extend its lead to 4-1.
The Highlanders scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game 4-4. Then, they scored two runs in the sixth inning, tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning, and added their final run in the eighth inning to lead 11-4.
The Buccaneers rallied for their two final runs in the ninth inning as Callum Burton and Graden Emmons each scored on wild pitches.
Next, Blinn will resume conference play with a nine-inning game against Wharton County Junior College on Tuesday, April 27, at 6 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
