ALVIN, Texas – Blinn College softball put together a strong pitching and defensive effort to allow only one run each game in a sweep over Alvin Community College by the score of 9-1 and 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Alvin.
The sweep improves Blinn’s record to 29-16 overall and 14-4 in the Region XIV South Zone standings. The Buccaneers have won four of their last five games after the sweep.
Blinn jumped all over Alvin with four runs in the first inning and didn’t look back in a 9-1 run rule victory in the sixth inning.
Jordin Wilkins brought in three runs in the victory with a double and two singles. Cheyenne Trader brought in a pair of runs with two singles while Meghann Wrinkle, Katie Andrie and Lauren Silver each had an RBI.
Sam Junkin pitched all six innings and allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out a pair.
Blinn got going right in the first inning when Wrinkle started it with a one-out double and later came around to score on an error. Wilkins ripped an RBI double to left for a 2-0 lead and then Silver followed two batters later with a double to left for a three run advantage. Silver later scored on an error for a 4-0 lead after a half inning.
Junkin held Alvin at bay while the Buccaneers went for more runs in the fourth inning. Kalli Edwards started it with a one-out single and came around to score on an RBI single by Wrinkle for a 5-0 lead. Wilkins brought in a pair with a single to left and then Trader made the score 8-0 with an RBI single to left to score Wilkins. Alvin did get one run off of Junkin in the fifth to get within 8-1.
Blinn looked to end the game early in the sixth when Andrie nailed a one-out double and Trader brought her in with a single to left for a 9-1 advantage that would hold up for a run rule victory in the sixth.

Blinn didn’t get nearly enough run support in the second game but it was enough for Bobbi Berkey to get the win in the circle and Junkin came in to get the save in the 2-1 victory to earn the sweep.
Berkey pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out four and Junkin pitched a scoreless seventh to seal the victory with the save.
Tori Gleason had the lone RBI for Blinn with after going 1 for 3 with a double. Edwards and Nicole Garcia each had a pair of singles in the win.
Blinn was able to strike first in the second when Trader led off with a single and Gleason was able to get her home after a double to left for a 1-0 lead. Alvin battled back in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
Edwards scored the go ahead run in the fifth after a two-out single and then coming around to score what would eventually be the game-winning run.
Blinn will take its final road trip of the regular season on Wednesday, April 13 with a doubleheader at Galveston College starting at 3 p.m.
