Austin County Commissioners Court had two very special ladies that they recognized during court on Monday. Carrsyn Gregor and Kendall Jablonowski won the state title in Tennis. Commissioner Reese Turner was the spokesman for the girls and read the following:
Carrsyn Gregor and Kendall Jablonowski are Juniors at Bellville High School, for bringing home the state title. To win is not easy, but to win state shows a level of dedication and skill rarely seen. To win a state title as juniors is truly remarkable. They have been playing tennis since they were both old enough to hold a tennis racket. Coach Brewer would like to think that our city Summer Tennis program gave them the tennis bug and between the support of their parents and the interest of each girl..they decided to be very good. They have done the extra required on their own time and they and their parents have made many sacrifices for Carrsyn and Kendall to be better tennis players.
Carrsyn Gregor played singles and has lettered for three years, 3rd in Region IV, and then last year winning Region III and qualifying for State, where she placed third. Kendall Jablonowski has lettered for three years as well, and she qualified for Regionals as a Freshmen and Sophomore, and last year winning Region III in Girls Doubles and also being third at state.
After much consideration, the two were merged into Girls Doubles and they have been very successful to say the least. While being good tennis players they had to learn to think together and use a bigger tennis court and learn to work as a team with the same goals. In the 7 scheduled school tournaments, they won five of those…they won the District 25 AAAA Championship with the loss of only one game in three matches.
In the Region III tournament they defeated, Grosebeck, 0.0, in the Semis, they defeated Center’s number 2 team, 0.0 and in the finals they defeated Center’s number one team dropping only three games in the entire final match and tournament. In the state tournament they defeated Krum, 6-2, 6-0, in the semis they defeated Fredericksburg, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the tie breaker, and in the finals they won over Spring Hill, 6-1, 6-4.
The girls showed teamwork of consistency and improved net play to dominate their opponents. To say the least, they are the first ever tennis players from the Bellville program to win a State Championship in Tennis.
In the words of Coach Brewer, “they were destined to win the State Championship”. Now, the goal has been set to win consecutive years and graduate as “Back to State Champions!
Congratulations to these two awesome tennis players and here’s to hoping that they have as much success next year.
