The Bellville Independent School District (ISD) Junior High band recently participated in the UIL Middle School Zone C Concert and Sight Reading contest held on Tuesday, Mar 7, 2023 at the Waller High School Fine Arts Wing. The students of the 7th and 8th grade bands gave a brilliant performance that left the judges and audience members thoroughly impressed.

In music contests, bands are judged based on a number of criteria, including tone quality, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, and overall musicianship. Bands are awarded scores based on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the highest score possible. This score is referred to as a 1st division score, or a “superior” rating.

The 7th grade band put on an outstanding performance on stage and received a 1st division score, indicating that they demonstrated exceptional musical ability and technical proficiency. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by the band members and their band director.

In addition to their impressive score on stage, the 7th grade band also achieved a 1st division score in sight-reading sweepstakes. Sight-reading is the ability to perform music that the band has never seen before, and achieving a 1st division score in this category is considered a significant accomplishment.

The 8th grade band also delivered an exceptional performance, receiving a 2nd division excellent score on stage. While not as high as a 1st division score, a 2nd division score is still considered a strong achievement, indicating that the band demonstrated good musical ability and technical proficiency.

Despite not achieving a 1st division score on stage, the 8th grade band still achieved a 1st division score in sight-reading, demonstrating their ability to learn and perform new music at a high level.

The Bellville ISD Junior High band’s recent accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence that the students and their band director have put into their musical education. Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade bands for their impressive scores and for representing their school district with excellence!
