The Austin County Elections Office, under the direction of Kim Rinn, Tax Assessor Collector, is pleased to announce the upcoming use of Vote Centers for the May 7, 2022 Election and all future elections.
Vote Centers, also known as the Countywide Polling Place Program, enables any registered voter in the county to vote at any Vote Center polling place on Election Day. Previously, a voter had to go to one certain location based
on registration address, but the new program allows voting convenient to
work, commuter route or home.
Austin County formally applied with the Secretary of State’s office in
January. Requirements for the program were the formation of an advisory
committee comprised of representatives from the county’s voting districts;
a computerized voter registration list that allows a pollworker to verify a
voter has not previously voted in the election. Additionally, a public
hearing which was held on January 10, 2022. Commissioner’s Court
approval was also required. Austin County will join 84 counties across the
state who currently participate in Countywide Polling Place Program.
