The Austin County Sheriff’s Department put out the following press release relating to the animal cruelty of a horse in Austin County:
On Sunday, March 21, 2021, at approximately 0022 hours, Austin County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of FM 1371 in regards to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival deputies found a severely injured horse that appeared to have been dragged on the roadway. Additionally, the injured horse had been shot at least two times. The horse was euthanized by deputies on the side of the road to be removed by TXDOT. The horse was a gelded gray and white, quarter-paint/Arabian mix. The horse was electronically scanned by deputies who discovered an imbedded microchip that was unregistered.
Deputies are currently working with the chip manufacturer to identify who purchased the chip and ultimately identify the owner of the animal. This case is being investigated as a cruelty to animal case and will be referred to the District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
