The Miracle League of Austin County, Texas is a baseball league for special needs individuals and was founded on the belief that everyone deserves a chance to play baseball. There are not many opportunities for athletic/team/social participation for special needs individuals in our area and the Miracle League of Austin County is excited for the chance to bring this program to our community.

The league is in need of 25-30 volunteers per game day to serve as Buddies in order to make this happen. ย As a leader of an organization, team, or business in our community, you can help make the inaugural season of the Miracle League of ACTX a success and contribute to the life of a special need individual. ย So, what is a Buddy?

 

A BUDDY shadows a player during a Miracle League game. Some players simply need help keeping focused, others need direction with what to do with the ball and others simply need the reassurance of knowing a BUDDY is right there. Being a BUDDY is not hard and Miracle League Staff will provide training and instruction before the game. The reward is indescribable.

 

Anyone can be a BUDDY! Individuals, student athletes, civic groups, church groups, business groups, youth groups, and families are all needed and welcome. We ask that minors under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or group leader. ย Our players are ages 6-23 years, with varying levels of physical ability and cognitive function.ย  For the comfort of our players and our BUDDIES, we will work to match ages, sex, and ability level of players and BUDDIES to what is the best fit.

Games are at Clark Park in Bellville. ย All games start at 3:30 and are one hour in length. Games are played on Sundays (excluding holiday weekends). Game dates for our Spring Season are: April 19, April 26, May 3, May 17, May 31, and June 7.

There are many ways that you can sign up to be a BUDDY. ย You can sign up as an individual or coordinate with your employer, family, or organization and sign up as a group. We have six games this season and ask for you to sign up to help FOR JUST ONE GAME (of course, we won’t turn you away if you want to help at more than one game).
