Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in partnership with the Colorado County Rice Committee, will host the 49th annual Eagle Lake Rice Field Day on June 27 at the Eagle Lake Community Center.

The free event will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the community center located at 100 N. Walnut Ave., Eagle Lake.

The event will consist of a rice research update beginning at 4 p.m. A catered meal will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the evening program following the meal. The sponsorship support of area agribusinesses allows all interested to attend free of charge.

There will be two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units — one general and one laws and regulations — offered to all licensed pesticide applicators who attend.

During the research portion prior to the meal, scientists will update producers on various topics including:

  • Specialty rice breeding.
  • Plant physiology.
  • Plant nutrient management.
  • Insect, weed and disease management.

The program is coordinated by the Colorado County Rice Committee, which is comprised of local producers who meet throughout the year to identify relevant and applicable topics for producers.
