Agricultural producers in Milam and Burleson counties are invited to an agricultural irrigation workshop Nov. 10 in Caldwell, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at JRG Farms, 8105 Farm-to-Market Road 50. Light breakfast and lunch is included and registration is required at posgcd.org/event/ag-2311.
The event will cover new agricultural irrigation technologies, best practices and cost-share opportunities that optimize water use while maintaining crop yields and farm profitability.
“The groundwater conservation district and AgriLife Extension support our local ag producers’ efforts to conserve and protect water resources while also maximizing the production of food and fiber,” said Jaclyn Robertson, AgriLife Extension associate with the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District and the Texas Water Resources Institute, Bryan-College Station. “Workshops like these help us share the latest best practices, programs and technologies that maximize water-use efficiency and crop profitability.”
Workshop keynote speaker and agenda
The workshop topics will include:
- Irrigation water management practices.
- Irrigation scheduling tools, technologies and strategies.
- System application and efficiency.
- Information about the district’s grant program.
The keynote speaker for this event is Drew Gholson, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Mississippi State University and coordinator for the National Center of Alluvial Aquifer Research, Stoneville, Mississippi. Gholson is also an Extension expert on conservation irrigation, water management practices and use of scheduling technologies to help producers make informed decisions to save water and improve profitability of operations.
