A halftime deficit did little to deter the Blinn College women’s basketball team Wednesday, as the Buccaneers rallied to defeat Louisiana State University-Eunice in Eunice, La.
A big second half carried Blinn to a 69-54 victory over the Bengals.
The Bucs are now 2-0 overall this season.
“It was a good team road win,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We got a lot of points off our defense in the second half which allowed us to break the game open.”
The Bucs led 16-13 after the first period but trailed 28-26 at the intermission. A 26-13 third quarter gave the visitors a 52-41 cushion heading into the final period of play.
Leading the way offensively for Blinn were sophomore guard Tianna Mathis and freshman guard Chelsy Singleton, who scored 15 points apiece. Freshman guard Ja’Nya Thomas chipped in 12 points.
Up next for the Bucs is a road trip to the Grayson Hoops Classic on the campus of Grayson College in Denison, Texas. Blinn takes on Hill College at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, and Ranger College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
