Blinn College has partnered with the Brenham Heritage Museum and the City of Brenham to bring art from a variety of local, Houston and Austin artists to nine different venues in downtown Brenham.
The Brenham Art Walk will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, and will coincide with BrewStep, a beer-tasting festival taking place from that same evening. Nine downtown venues will host Art Walk exhibits – Brenham Heritage Museum, the Backlot Gallery, the Art League of Brenham, Home Sweet Farm, 96 West, The Cottage, Book Nook, Sweet Repeats and Brazos Valley Brewery.
The idea for the Brenham Art Walk came out of a discussion between Blinn College Professor Douglas Cason and Doug Price of Brenham Heritage Museum.
“Having spoken to a couple of other establishments, we all agreed it was time for us to bring new art showcases to Brenham and to this region, especially since there’s this new progressive downtown movement,” Cason said. “It’s exciting to bring art to people who may not have the opportunity to see art of this caliber outside the city and to bring artists into a new area where they have not been represented before.”
The event is centered around the month-long exhibition of David Hardaker’s “The Knowledge Box,” which places the Texas oil industry in a unique visual context. The Houston-based artist’s exhibit, named after a term for the office where oil drilling records are kept, will enjoy a 30-day run at Brenham Heritage Museum.
Austin-based artist Elena Pepe’s work will be on display at 96 West, while Blinn College faculty Cason and Doug Peck will display their work at the Brazos Valley Brewery and Sweet Repeats, respectively.
Blinn’s Fine Arts Program offers courses in art appreciation, art history, design, drawing, design communication, painting, art metals, ceramics, digital art, photography and watercolor. In addition to its wide-ranging fine arts offerings, Blinn’s Division of Visual/Performing Arts & Kinesiology offers courses in architecture, communication studies, kinesiology, music and theatre, and hosts a wide range of performances across its campuses, including musical and theatrical shows at Brenham’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center.
