The Friends of the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site are thrilled to welcome renowned Texas authors Joe Holley and Stephen Harrigan for a special installment of the History at Night series this December. Titled An Evening as Big as Texas: Conversations about the Lone Star State, the event promises an engaging evening for history buffs, book lovers, and proud Texans alike.
Holley and Harrigan, both celebrated for their contributions to Texas literature, will share insights about the state’s rich history and culture. Joe Holley will present two of his latest works, Power – How the Electric Co-op Movement Energized the State and Native Texan, a collection of his popular history-themed columns from the Houston Chronicle. Stephen Harrigan, an acclaimed novelist and journalist, will feature his highly regarded books Big Wonderful Thing, a sweeping history of Texas, and The Gates of the Alamo, a New York Times bestseller.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase these books and have them signed by the authors over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Guests are also encouraged to bring their own copies of any previously published works by the authors for signing. The Story Peddler bookstore of Bellville will serve as the event’s retail partner, ensuring attendees can secure perfect holiday gifts for friends and family.
This event marks a return engagement for Holley and Harrigan, who first appeared together at the historic site in December 2019 to celebrate the release of Big Wonderful Thing.
