ABOUT THE CITY OF EAGLE LAKE, TEXAS: Eagle Lake is a city in southeastern Colorado
County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,442 at the 2020 Census. The City is home to
a golf course, the largest private lake in Texas, and the Eagle Lake Regional Airport, which serves
light aircraft. The lake, along with adjacent rice fields, attracts a large variety of migratory birds.
The city is known as the "Goose-hunting Capital of the World." The City is home to the Attwater’s
Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary for an endangered species that’s making a
comeback on the coastal prairie. The Colorado River is nearby with access points to boating,
kayaking and fishing. The City has many buildings and homes on the historic designation list. City
Hall is also located within Historic Downtown. Eagle Lake is just 66 miles west of Houston.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Public Works Director will report to the City Manager and is
responsible for overseeing all aspects of Public Works in a General Law Type A city with a
population of over 3400. The director will be administratively responsible for employee
development, training, safety education and documentation. The director will also counsel
employees and work through disciplinary issues in compliance with City personnel rules and
regulations and State and Federal law. Director will be subject to responding to emergencies during
off-duty hours and attending City Council meetings after working hours. May work extensive hours
and must respond to emergency callback, as required.
Some areas of responsibility are: Prepares and prioritizes list of infrastructure repair/replacement
needs, maintenance of water wells, water systems and lines, wastewater system and lines, monitors
solid waste collection service, roads and streets, parks, swimming pool, airport grounds, street and
traffic signs, utility vehicles, heavy equipment, city-owned buildings and facilities, prepares and
files all regulatory reports, ensuring reporting deadlines are adhered to and division activities
comply with established rules and regulations, and other duties as assigned by the City Manager.
The director also assists with the preparation of and maintains the department budget and the
purchase and inventory of all parts and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: High School Graduate or GED; current Texas
Driver’s License is required and a CDL is preferred. Four (4) years supervisory and/or managerial
experience in public works or an equivalent field is preferred and a qualified applicant shall have
an extensive knowledge of construction and maintenance of equipment. TCEQ licenses preferred.
Basic computer skills are required. Must pass a criminal history background check and a drug and
alcohol screening.
SALARY: $55,000 - $70,000 D.O.Q. The City of Eagle Lake provides exceptional medical
coverage – health, dental and vision. Employees are also vested after 5 years.
