The Austin County West End Library is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Texas America250 Challenge, a year-long initiative encouraging citizens of all ages to help celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence from England and the establishment of America’s enduring democracy.

The challenge invites participants to complete 2,500 minutes (approximately 41.66 hours) of activities throughout 2026. Participants should track their time using official log forms and submit completed logs by December 31, 2026.

Eligible activities include:
-Reading books about United States or Texas history, nature, wildlife, or space exploration
-Visiting Texas State Parks
-Volunteering through community service with any nonprofit organization

“This challenge is great for families,” said library director Marty Kellner. “There are many ways for families to participate. Forty hours is a challenge, but there are plenty of fun options to help reach the goal.”

One meaningful way to participate is by sharing a veteran’s story. A special survey allows veterans to record their experiences, including why they joined the military, how they chose their branch of service, whether they followed a family tradition, and what their service means to them. Veterans can share their stories online HERE.

Library staff are available to assist participants who need help accessing the survey using library computers.

Participants who complete the Texas America250 Challenge and turn in their activity logs will receive official recognition from the Governor’s Office.
